Jorgensen Cover THE J¯RGENSEN FAMILY

FROM HARBOGAARD

Introduction

by Eduard Jensen

I would like to quote my mother, Anna J¿rgensen Jensen, who once upon a time started to write the family history.  She wrote:

ÒIn grateful memory of our dear parents and our good childhood home, I got the idea that we brothers and sisters should write our family history. It really did happen. AnnaÕs brothers and sisters and those of us from the next generation wrote in the book. A little piece of paper from Albert and Astrid suggested that the book should go back to Daler, where it was started.  Since there was so much good reading in that book, it would be nice if more than one family could enjoy it. Our younger generation has so many memories from all our visits both as children and later as adults that need to be shared.

I can still remember how our family from Daler took the bus to T¿nder, and from there took the train to Aabenraa.  We had to change trains in both Tinglev and R¿dekro.  When we arrived in Aabenraa, we had to walk to Harborgaard by going up and over Dimen. We children were so happy when we passed Brunbjergene and could see the Harborgaard farm in the distance.

It was great when the whole family was together.  We all gathered in grandmotherÕs living room and heard one story after another. Later we had a couple of gatherings with all the cousins.  The first time was at Strandgaarden.  The second time was at Harbogaard while Annemarie and Erik lived there.  It is now many years later and it would be nice if we could all meet again.  The idea is hereby passed on.

At this time only my mother Anna is living so it is a good time to write this book and get it up to date.  After contacting one from each family, I felt that they would all like to have this book when it is written. Information about our grandfatherÕs family in the USA and Australia is included.

With visits we have kept the contacts and widened it to the large family in two other countries.  The world is getting smaller and it is easy to get from one place to the others for a fairly reasonable price.  The rest is now a copy from the old family book with additions and comments written by other members of the family.  We have to stop sometime but who knows, perhaps someone in future generations will add another chapter to the J¿rgensen family history.

We also found some pictures to put in the book.  My son-in-law has been a great help with this book. I would like to thank everyone for helping to make this book a reality.

In the old book I found a poem from Petra Bech Bjerrum.  I didnÕt know her and donÕt know when she wrote it.  Never mind how it appeared.  It is most welcome in connection with a family book, and we print this poem before we continue this book again.

J¿rgensen Family from Harbogaard

The family book in my hands

In the quiet hours light

New hope to the future

With a root that goes back

Here from the books leaves they are smiling,

Who now rest in the earth

Here they reach their hands

Toward a child, they donÕt know

They have embraced sorrow and joy

Where they walked, we step carefully

Their dust has life and voice

In a song we heard at home

All their thoughts

Are an inheritance they have

Their mind like deep currents

Goes again in our dreams

The children, who in our arms

Seek safety and warmth

Have a treasure in their hands

When they turn the leaves of the book.

Forward we must, but back

Is our family from old time

Like a defense against the loneliness

Like an army, give warning of the peace.

When a link breaks in the chain

When we loose what is dear

When we carry a child to baptism

The hope of the family is ours

The word over the familyÕs grave

The word through the gift of baptism

The word is the lightÕs caretaker

Over all the families on earth.

Anna Jensen writes:

I will trace our family back to our progenitor, and also write some memories from our home.  Later I will write about my own family.

The family name J¿rgensen is tied in with Harbogaard goes back to our great grandfather, J¿rgensen, who in 1827 married Ingeborg Maier, widow after Jes Bojsen, who in 1823 bought Jens Lassen HarboÕs lot on Bodum field.

The Old Harbgaard

The farmÕs name originates here, and should not wrongly be called Harbygaard.  Great grandfather came from a farm in Nr. Hjarup, and can trace his family back to 1644.

Great grandmother was a tailorÕs daughter from Lojt Kirkeby, but the family comes from the Vilstrup parish. Her brother, Christian Wollesen Maier later became pastor in Vilstrup from 1840 to 1850.  Great GrandmotherÕs daughter from the first marriage was Anne Catherine Bojsen who married Johan Lausen  Uldall, who was parish clerk in Vilstrup.  Their three daughters, dadÕs cousins Christine, Benedikte and Marianne often visited our home.

Harbogaard lies on the border of the old municipal boundary between L¿jt Kirkeby, Stollig and Bodum in beautiful surroundings with hills in all directions.  Only to the south-southeast is there a flat area with a view to the nearest neighbor Bassehuset.

In our childhood, Jep, Emma and Adda Zoega lived here. To the south there is Brunbjerene, to the east some high hills TrŸnbjerg, to the west is Bodumbjerge, we had to cross when we walked to school.  Sometimes we preferred to go around and join Tidde and Stino Jepsen.  Toward Kirkeby there was a path across Ôae ArmhuslykÕ up toward the Lojt windmill.

Just in front of the farmyard is Tielsbjerg, which blocks the view, but if you reach the top, we have a great view all around.  In our childhood, we could see the Bismark monument a long ways off, but it was removed after the reunification.  We have a lot of memories from this our old home.  According to Jes HoldtÕs book ÒGlimt of Lojt Sogns HistorieÓ the national question didnÕt exist for the people of L¿jt Parish much before 1840.  They were native people, but in the 1840Õs the division between Danish and German minded started.  How was it at Harbogaard?

Jes & Johanna Jorgensen ~1850edIn 1848, editor Fr. Fisher secretly circulated a protest paper which read:  ÒWe protest very strongly against that Slesvig should be united with Germany, and that it should lose it ties with Denmark.Ó  From L¿jt Parish, 361 signed this paper. Our great grandfather was not satisfied with just his signature, so in a citation from Jes HoldtÕs book it says J¿rgen J¿rgensen from Harbogaard wanted to add a few words.  ÒI have lived under 4 Danish kings and have sworn allegiance to King Frederik VII, and this oath will never be broken. We recall with excitement and happiness in our home the events for the vote and reunification in 1920.

J¿rgen and Ingeborg had a son Jes Boysen J¿rgensen 23/12/1825 - 2/11/1886.  He gets married November 2, 1856 to Johanne Beck Rasmussen from Sonderballe, Hoptrup Parish; 29/12/1825  - 2/11 1924.  They had the following children:

Christine is born February 19, 1859.  She immigrates to USA in 1884 with a couple of girlfriends.  They go to Cedar Falls, where they lived with many other Danish immigrants.  Here she meets Erik Jensen Thuesen, who was born near Haderslev in 1857 and immigrated to USA in 1873.  They were married and lived the rest of their lives on a farm in Fredsville, near Cedar Falls.  They had 13 children and many in the family have stayed in contact with the family in Denmark, Christine dies in 1924.

3.     Peter is born July 28, 1861 and immigrates to Australia at age 16.  He lived in Queensland and had three wives.  He had a total of 14 children.  Nis and Minna and later Henning and Esther visited some of his family.

It must have been hard to say goodbye to three children who left home when they were very young.  Yes it must have been hard for both the parents and the children.  None of them ever saw their family or their homeland again.

Jorgensen002Jorgen 1867 001

Dad (J¿rgen) wanted to go sailing.  He sailed for three years and got his mateÕs sailing license from Aabenraa School of Navigation.  He had to however give up sailing to return to the farm, Haborgaard to help his mother.  His dad was hit by a wing from the windmill and died of his injuries July 2, 1886.  Dad was only 19 years old.

In 1893, Dad got married to Anna Clausen (1858-1895) daughter of Albert Clausen from Kirkeby, Vestermark.  She died early from tuberculosis and left a little daughter Bodil who was born November 21, 1894.  AnnaÕs dad Albert Clausen (great grandfather Albert) spent his last years at Harbogaard.  A son Rasmus (brother to Anna (J¿rgenÕs first wife) came home from America with his wife Elizabeth to visit his dad.  I remember their visit three times.

Bodil Johanne J¿rgensen  (daughter from J¿rgenÕs first marriage to Anna Clausen)

Bodil marries Asmus Asmussen from ¯ster L¿gum on March 15, 1918.  Asmus was born in L¿jt Kirekby, April 9, 1894.  Bodil and Asmus had three children:

1.     Asmus Asmussen born January16, 1919.  He dies from TB March 30, 1924

2.     Anne Asmussen born November 28, 1920

3.     Christine Catrine Asmussen (Didde) born March 23, 1922

Bodil Johanne Asmussen dies October 24, 1922 from TB and her husband Asmus dies in January 1961.

Anne Asmussen writes: (Second child of Bodil and Asmus Asmsussen)

My mother Bodil Johanne J¿rgensen, died from TB when I was 2.  Our brother Asmus also died from TB. I stayed with my grandmother, as Dad later married his cousin who was a war widow.  I went to ¯ster Logum School.  It closed long ago.  After graduating I got a job.  The first year I stayed with Anne and Asmus Lassen in Hovslund.  From there I got a job with Johanne and Jes in Hjordkaer.  Later I went to Hoptrup Efterskole in 1939.  Then I got a job with Mads Lindholt in Fasbro for 1 1/2 years.  My last job was with Anton Wollesen, ¯ster Logum.  (He was father-in-law to Jes Holt.)

In October 1943, I was married to Lorens Peter S¿nnichsen.  He was born January 30, 1915, son of Marie and Marius S¿nnicksen, Genner.  We were going to rent a farm in Rise Hjarup.  Then Vogelgesang said no when they found out we were Danish despite the fact that the owner would like to have us.  Then we moved to a job on a farm in Hovslund.  Our daughter Bodil was born there March 17, 1947.  Later we sold it when in 1953 we bought the farm ÒBr¿deÓ on L¿jtland.  Here Rita was born August 14, 1957.

Our greatest sorrow happened on June 23, 1963 when we lost our daughter Bodil in a tractor accident.  They say accidents donÕt happen alone and in 1969, a fire destroyed our house and we lost everything we owned. It is good to have good neighbors and friends.  We are still living on the farm.

Rita, after graduating from high school and business school is an apprentice at BJ Music where she still works.  She drives to S¿nderborg every day.  Rita and her boyfriend Albert Lauritsen are living on the top floor of our home.

Anne tells later that she lost her husband Lorens February 25, 1997. The same year Anne moved into L¿jt.  Her daughter Rita and husband Albert still live on the farm ÒBr¿deÓ.  They have two children:

1.     Stine Marie born February 20, 1989

2.     Niels Christian born October 12, 1991

Rita now works in the office of economics at Haderslev Hospital.  Albert was a baker for many years but had to quit when he was not able to stand in the bakery.  Now he drives around a large area of Denmark as sales representative for SBO.

Christine Catrine Asmussen ÒDiddeÓ   (Third child of Bodil and Asmus Asmussen): She writes:

I was born March 13, 1922 in Aabenraa Hospital.  At that time my mother was already sick and she died in October the same year I was born. I moved in with my grandparents in Harbogaard.  It became my home and I was like a daughter to them. I have always called them Mom and Dad.  I had a good childhood for which I am very thankful. I went to Bodum School and was confirmed in the L¿jt church.  I then went out to work and had different jobs in the area.

March 11, 1944, I married Peter Jessen. Peter was born November 10, 1016,  the son of Margrethe and Jes Jessen, L¿jt Vestermark.  We first rented a little house on L¿kt Vestermark.  Then we bought a little farm from PeterÕs brother up on L¿jt Bjergholdt.  We farmed until Peter received an early pension.  He had to quit working because of health problems.  We have now rented the land to Svend Peter, who is the son of Botille and Albert Lauritzen.  We are still living in the house and enjoying life.  Unfortunately we did not have any children.

Didde tells later:

In 1998 we moved into a house in L¿jt Gildegade that we bought from J¿rgen Jessen.  We sold the farm to Anne Margrethe and J¿rgen JessenÕs son Freddy Jensen.  On October 27, 2000 DiddeÕs husband, Peter died after a long illness.

Anna Jensen continues:

In 1903, eight years after DadÕs first wife Anne Clausen died of TB, Dad (J¿rgen) got married to Anna Iversen  (b. March 11, 1877 –d. May 2, 1963).  Anne Iversen was the daughter of Jes Iversen and Anne Marie (Christensen) from L¿jt Kirkeby.  Her mother Anne Marie, died in childbirth.  An aunt (Grethe) helped to raise the kids and do the housekeeping.

MotherÕs brother Jens had a blacksmith business.  He died young leaving his wife, Sophie, with four children, Marie, Jes, Nicolai and Anna.  We often visited Aunt Sophie in her home in N¿rregade.

MotherÕs other brother Jes, lived near Harbogaard on the farm now owned by Niels Frank.  We often came to visit Uncle Jes and Aunt Christine.  When Uncle Jes was drafted during the First World War (1914-1918) our father helped on the farm as much as he could.

Mother worked as a young gal in the house of Captain Moos in Dyrhave for 10 years.  She must have been very strong and competent to be able to do this.  How we must admire her.  She had 9 children very quickly and also took care of the old people who were there including great grandfather, Albert Clausen and Aunt Botille, great grandmother (DadÕs mother).  She also took care of Aunt Ingeborg toward the end of her life.

One can only wonder how it was possible to get all the work done.  There were no modern conveniences of any kind.  We all helped each other.  As we children grew up, we all had our duties.  We did a lot of work washing, butchering and baking in the old ÒBakhusÓ.  In my first years as a child, we also brewed beer.  My mother did the baking herself, but on washday she had help. I remember Marie Christensen or Stine Holm helping on washday.  Knud was a day worker.  The rye was threshed with a flail and the straw was used for the roof.  KnudÕs wife Marie sewed for our family and Knud fixed our wooden shoes.  When he brought them, we usually had coffee with akvavit.  Their two sons Niels and Hans also helped where they could.

It was a lively and busy life in our home.  We learned that unity and helpfulness enriches our lives.  Yes, thanks to our parents for everything from the time we were children through adulthood.

There were nine children in J¿rgenÕs second marriage with Anna (Iversen).

1.     Johanna                 born     February 4, 1904                     died     February 21, 1998

2.     Anna Marie           born     May 23, 1905

3.     Jensine                  born     May 21, 1906                          died     April 16, 1990

4.     Jes                         born     June 10, 1907                          died     September 2, 2001

5.     Ingeborg                born     June 14, 1908                          died     November 13, 2001

6.     Nis                                    born     September 19, 1909                 died     April 10, 1997

7.     Albert                    born     February       1912                   died     April 2, 1998

8.     Botille                    born     May 28, 1916                          died     September 23, 1942

9.     Petrea                    born     September 7, 1917                   died     April 14, 1989

Johanne J¿rgensen writes:

I am the oldest of nine children.  We had a good home, with a loving dad and mother.  They were religious hard working people who always wanted the best for all of us.  I went to Bodum School from 1910 to 1918.  The education was in German except for the religion classes that were taught in Danish.  In the winter of 1917-1918, I went to confirmation training and was confirmed in L¿jt Kirke March 17, 1918 with Pastor H¿ck.  This meant a lot to me. In L¿jt Parish while I was growing up, there were two ÒsistersÓ (Diakonisser) who took care of the sick and visited those who were lonely or old.  Their work interested me and I wanted to get into this kind of work.  God showed me this direction and in 1930 I came to Lukas Stiftelsen where I felt at home.

In the following years, I took nurseÕs training and worked many good years in the hospital.  Now in retirement, I have my home here.  But when I go back to S¿nderjylland, I always say I am going home. I try to         follow you in thought and prayer each day.  I close with the words of a hymn that I like very much and often think about.

Lead us oh God on your command

            Be able to live together

That we can be forever with you

In heaven can live in happiness.

Eduard Jensen writes:

Aunt Johanne died in 1998 after a long and good life at Lindely.  She really has been at the right place.  She always tried to help others especially her big family.  It was nice to visit her and she helped several in our family when they came to K¿benhavn to work.  She helped two of our children when they came to K¿benhavn to work.  Andreas lived upstairs at Lukas Stiftelsen when he began his training.  Marianne lived and worked there before she began her nurseÕs training at Bipebjerg Hospital.

We will always remember Aunt Johanna as a warm, frugal and modest person.

The Family of Anna Marie Jensen (Second child of J¿rgenÕs second marriage)

Anna writes:

I went to Bodum School and got my education from teacher Fries.  The education was in German, but the religion classes were in Danish.  From 1914-1918 we had different teachers.  Two young men, Gildberg and Bohnfeldt were drafted and then for a while we had teacher M¿ller and deacon Todsen from L¿jt.  Later we had Anna Sandkamm.  I liked her and from her I became interested in teaching.  In 1919 I was confirmed and finished with school.  In the summer of 1920, I went to Skanderup preschool and in 1921 I started school in T¿nder Seminarium.  I passed the test and had 3 seminarie classes and graduated in 1925.  I got a job for a year in L¿jt Kirkeby school.  In 1927 I went to ¯sterby and stayed there until 1934 when I left.  I had found my partner for life, Andreas Christian Jensen.  He was born May 16, 1903, son of Sheriff Eduard N. Jensen and Caroline from Daler.  We were married in L¿jt church October 19, 1934 and moved into AdreasÕs childhood home, which is right beside the church in Daler.  When we got married AdreasÕs parents moved into a retirement house right by the farm.  AndreasÕs brother Nis and another young man and a girl helped us with the work on the farm.  Nis stayed with us all the years we lived on the farm.

AndreasÕs father who was a sheriff died a few years after our marriage.  Then my husband Andreas took over the job of sheriff.  When this institution was replaced by the new commune reform, Andreas had the great honor to receive the Danish order ÒRidder of DannebrogÓ.

We have three children:

Eduard Jensen             born     September 7, 1935

Anneline Jensen          born     April 9, 1939

Birte Jensen                 born     April 26, 1944

On the old farm there was a stork nest on the barn and every year a pair of storks arrived. On the Easter morning that Anneline was born, the storks arrived.  We have always been able to say that the storks brought our baby Anneline.

The old farm buildings became too small so began to modernize it.  The farm was built in 1856 with thatched roofs.  In 1948 we started to get a new roof on the house.  In 1950-51 we built a new barn.  During these years there was a big change in farming methods.  Many new machines were used in farming and the heavy labor was greatly reduced.  When Eduard married Kirsten Thuesen in 1961, they moved to the farm and we moved to the retirement home with AndreasÕs mother and Nis. We are still living here.

A lot has happened since Anna wrote this.  She is now living a good active life in the retirement home Digegaarden in H¿jer.  She moved there after she was alone in 1996.  AndreasÕs mother died in 1966.  Andreas died suddenly October 5, 1991. Nis died four years later on October 5, 1995. AndreasÕs brother Nis spent his last years in Digegaarden in H¿jer.  It was great to know Anna, Andreas, and Nis lived a good and close life together for so many years.

Eduard writes:

I started my education in Daler where children from Daler and GŸrup went.  There were two classes where a woman teacher taught the first 3 grades.  Teacher Flint had the 4 oldest grades.  We learned lots of songs we still enjoy singing now.  I went to Daler school for four years and then went to T¿nder Statsskole where I graduated.  I had now decided that I was tired of school and wanted to farm.  First I helped at home on the farm and then I got a job on Jyndevad Experimental Station.  That was when Frederik Heicks was director.  In November 1955, I was drafted to the kingÕs guard for 16 months.  That was a time of many memories.  After staying home several months, I studied at KjŸrgaard Agricultural School.  After that I got a job on a farm is Hostrup by Vardi as a cattleman.  The farm belonged to Vagn Fog-Petersen who at that time was director of the Dalum Agricultural School.  My 15 months in Hostrup was my fate as far as the weaker sex is concerned.  Here I met Kirsten Ingrid Thuesen who was born in TrŸden, Hostrup Parish July 26, 1941.  She was the daughter of Anne and S¿ren Thuesen who had a farm in TrŸden by Kokspang.  We were married in the Hostrup Church with Pastor Herluf Eriksen who was later bishop in Aarhus.  We were married on May 15, 1961 the same day KirstenÕs parents celebrated their silver wedding anniversary.  We then moved to the farm here in Daler.  We rented it in 1963 and bought it in 1966.

We have three children:

Andreas Jensen                       born May 28, 1962

Torben Jensen                         born April 16, 1963

Marianne Jensen                     born November 6, 1968

As I write this Andreas works in the Danish Bank in Rungsted.  Torben wants to farm and we are planning on him moving here to the farm in a few years. Marianne attends the T¿nder Gymnasium, but doesnÕt know yet what she wants to do.  I can only say that I have been very lucky.  I have a wonderful wife and some great children.  I have been blessed with good times with my sisters at my parentÕs home.  Kirsten also enjoyed good times with her two sisters and brothers in her home.  We have tried to do the same for our children and think we have been quite successful.

We are now in 2002 and a lot has happened since I wrote the above.  In 1990 we bought the old PrŸstegaard (parsonage) here in Daler and have lived here ever since.  We sold the farm to Torben in 1992 and I spend my time helping him when he needs me.  As one gets older it is nice to have less work.  We also have other interests and have seen a little of this great world.

In 1998 we took a trip to the USA with my sister Anneline.  MotherÕs cousin Esther and her husband Harold have visited Denmark a few times.  In 1957 they had their daughter Marilyn along and we have kept in touch.  In 1997 Esther and HaroldÕs four children and their spouses visited us.  Their four children are Dennis, Arlan, Edwin and Marilyn.  They thought we should visit them in America and so did.  We were there 18 days and visited 7 states.  The whole trip was simply arranged for us from beginning to end.  We stayed with the four families alternately.

Arlan and Carol took over the farm from Esther and Harold in Fredsville, Iowa.  It is a half mile from the farm ArlanÕs grandparents, Erik and Christine Thuesen lived.  Also near by is the farm of Ole and Johanne Johnson.  Christine and Johanne are sisters of my grandfather J¿rgen Jorgensen.  Marilyn and Bill live in Des Moines.  The four of them took us on a wonderful trip across the flat prairies of South Dakota and Wyoming to the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Colorado.

The two other couples, Dennis & Sandra and Edwin and Janice live in the neighboring state of Minnesota. One of the last days they arranged a big family gathering in the fellowship hall of Fredsville Lutheran Church.  There were about 70 people of all ages and all were descendants of our grandfatherÕs two sisters, Christine and Johanne.  There was almost an equal number from the two families, Thuesen and Johnson.  We have many good contacts, good memories and great photos from there.

Our three children are all married.  Andreas was married in the Gentofte Church July 10, 1995 to Birgitte Marie Thygesen.  She was born October 18, 1967, daughter of Inge and Erik Tygesen.  Andreas is now vice president of the Danish Bank in Hellerup.  Birgitte who is an accountant works for Danica Pension in Lyngby.  They bought a house in Gentofte.

Torben was married April 25, 1992 in Abild Church to Jette Marie Holst, born November 15, 1966 in Hogslund, Abild Parish.  She is the daughter of Esther and Frode Holst who now live in T¿nder.  Torben has the old family farm, now called Dalagergaard.  Jette works in an office for a farm organization in L¿gumkloster.   Torben and Jette have three children:

Camilla Holst Jensen               born     March 4, 1993

Lasse Holst Jensen                  born     May 4, 1996

            S¿ren Holst Jensen                 born     September 11, 1999

Marianne was married April 1, 2000 in the Daler Church to Per Christiansen.  Per was born September 15, 1964 son of Gerda and Erik Chistiansen from Hj¿rring.  Marianne is a nurse and works at Hiller¿d Hospital. Per is an architect and works at the Design and Communications Bureau, Bysted in Hellerup.  He also paints and often exhibits his paintings.  They have bought a nice old farmhouse in N¿rre Herlev by Hiller¿d. They have one child:

Simon Christiansen                 born     June 8, 2000.

Anneline writes:

I arrived as mentioned earlier with the stork April 9, 1939 on a beautiful Easter morning.  The family was very happy to get a little girl but big brother Eduard was more interested in the Easter eggs he received.  I started in Daler school and then went to T¿nder Statsskole where I graduated. I then worked in Den Danske Landmandsbank in T¿nder.  After my apprenticeship, I got a job in their bank in Helsing¿r.  In 1961 I married Erik Nielsen GotsŸd.  He was born July 12, 1939 son of Astrid and Helge Nielsen GotsŸd who had Kronborg Sawmill by Helsing¿r.  We lived in a new house by the sawmill where Erik worked.  Later we moved to GrŸsted where he had a sawmill in a closed factory.  We were divorced in 1976.  We have 3 children:

As mentioned earlier I was on an unforgettable trip the summer of 1998 to USA with Kirsten and Eduard.  We made contact with the big family over there.  Otherwise in my spare time I am together with family and run in a club.  Once a week I sing in Gribskov chorus.

As the raisin in the end of the sausage, I was born April 26, 1944.  My brother and sister say I was spoiled, but I doubt that.  After 7 years in Daler School, I left the school.  I then had a job as a maid first here at home and then attended Vojens youth school for 5 months.  Then I worked in the home of Andrea and Jens Thomsen at Mogeltonder dairy.  From southern Jutland, I went to SjŸlland at the age of 16 to play the piano for singing, gymqastics and folkdancing.  After the apprentice time I continued to play, but also served as a cook.

I liked it on SjŸlland and worked as a maid for an architect couple, Eva and Niels Koppel in Gentofte.  I spent 4 years here while I got my high school education from the Statens Kurus in K¿benhavn.  I then started my education to be a teacher on Jonstrup Seminarium.  In 1966 I married Ole Bengt Konsgaard Hansen.  He is the son of Karen Konsgaarad Jensen and Valdemar Hansen, Ringsted.  We have 2 children:

Lise Kongsgaard Hansen        born     October 4, 1966

Peter Kongsgaard Hansen       born     March 30, 1969

In 1970 I graduated and got a teaching job on Trongaardsskolen in Lyngby where I still work.  Ole is an architect and has had his own business since 1972.  He specializes in design of hotels and restaurants.  Lise is studying at Virum Statsskole and Peter is in the 9th grade on Hummeltofteskolen in Sorgenfri.

We live in a lovely house on Kongestien in Virum-Sorgenfri.  Birte is a teacher and school librarian at Trongaardsskolen in Lyngby.  Ole has moved his office home after several years in Charlottenlund.  Birte and OleÕs house in Virum Sorgrenfri eventually got to large and now we have a nice apartment in Birker¿d.  We also have a summerhouse in KarresbŸksminde and spend a lot of time there.

Lise was married October 2000 to Gon Kiem Broson Prag.  He was born in Vietnam February 24, 1967, the son of Anh Ha Cong and Jorgen Prag.  Lise is project director in Sponsor Service A/S K¿benhavn.  Gon is director in an IT company, TSM in K¿benhavn.  They have a house in Herlev and have 2 sons:

Jes writes:

I was born at Harbogaard June 10, 1907.  I went to school in Bodum with teacher Andersen.  I mostly stayed at home because I had a bad arm caused by an accident when I was 2 years old, but later had a job on a farm in ¯ster Lindet.  In 1933 I moved to a farm in Revs¿ by Sommersted and married Johanne Marie Madsen.  She was born in Orum by Hedensted March 19, 1909.  In 1935 we sold the farm in Revs¿ and moved to HjordkŸr. On March 8, 1943, I had the great sorrow to lose Johanne and was alone with 4 children.

            Esther J¿rgensen                                 born     October 1, 1934

            Anna Margrethe J¿rgensen                 born     February 27, 1936

            Jytte J¿rgensen                                    born     August 23, 1942

Jytte was moved to an aunt in Vejle and stayed there.

In 1945 I remarried to Frederikke Callesen from Uge.  She was born August 23, 1909.  Gradually the farm was expanded and we got a bunch of bulls.  The number grew and a cattle breeding association was started.  We sold the farm to the association and we were hired to run the business.  Every morning 4 technicians came and started from here.  It was always busy in the morning.  All orders were placed by phone.  That was FrederikkeÕs job.  As the business expanded the place in HjordkŸr got too small.  They built a new bull station in Bovlund and we moved there to manage it.  We stayed there 7 years and then bought a house in HjordkŸr.  Jes died September 2, 1990 and Frederikke died February 1, 1997.

I was born August 23, 1942.  As my mother died when I was quite young, I went to live with my motherÕs sister Gerda and her husband Emil in Vejle.  Here I was raised with my little brother Ernst.  We had a good childhood.  I have a lot of memories from summer vacations and family gatherings on the bull station in HjordkŸr.  I received my training in a bank and worked for Vejle Amtskommune.  Later I worked at home and had a day care center.  October 9, 1965 I married Ib Christensen.  Ib was born February 2, 1940 and works as a bank account in S¿nderjylland.  We have 2 sons:

I was born on Harbogaard June 14, 1908 as number 5 of the children.  I was born with a dislocated hip and have always had a handicap.  I am lame and it has always hurt to walk.  I went to Bodum school.  The first years at Bodum School was during WWI and the education was in German.  I also got Danish education a few years later with teacher Andersen who came to Bodum after the reunification.  I was confirmed in the L¿jt church March 25, 1923 with Pastor N¿rballe.  I worked several places where I learned housekeeping. March 17, 1929, I married Friedrich Jessen born November 7, 1896 the son of Margrethe and Jes Jessen, L¿jt Vestermark.  He was called in the war at 19 years of age.  He was wounded during the war and lost a leg.  He was an invalid all his life.  Later he became an upholsterer and bought his own business in 1926 in a new house in L¿jt. It became our home.  We have 2 children:

            J¿rgen Jessen                          born     February 14, 1930

Anne Margrethe Jessen           born     April 4, 1934

My husband died July 2, 1975 after several years of illness, but we had 46 years together and now I live here with my son and daughter in law.  Ingeborg lived in a nursing home in L¿jt the last few months and died November 13, 2001.  Her son preceded her in death.  He died a few months earlier.

J¿rgen writes:

I went to L¿jt School 7 years and was confirmed in the L¿jt church by Pastor Bilde.  After confirmation I worked to learn more about farming.  I was in the army in S¿gaard and T¿nder and when I came home, I wanted to be an upholsterer and got a job with my dad.  As my dad was ill, I took over the business in 1960, until I quit in 1971.  Then I worked for SŸkko Pressenning in Aabenraa and for one year I worked for Sydjysk Gulvbelaegning. After that I went to Aabenraa Kar¿serifabrik and have worked here 13 years as an auto upholsterer.

I married Anne Margrethe Iversen April 27, 1956.  She was born May 31, 1932, the daughter of  Johanne and Heinrich who works for Skrave church. Anne Margrethe received nurseÕs aide training and has worked as a nurseÕs aid in the nursing home in Gr¿nnegaarden  in Aabenraa.  We have 3 sons:

Tommy took the practical exam in Aabenraa and trained in Sydbank in Aabenraa.  He still works there and has a condo in Aabenraa.

Per took expanded 10th grade and was a mechanic at Ford autos in Aabenraa.  He continues there and is still living at home.

A lot has happened since J¿rgen wrote this.  Anne Margrethe has retired.  This has been a very close family where 4 generations have lived together beautifully and all have helped each other.  Therefore it was hard for the family when J¿rgen became seriously ill and died June 21, 2001. When Ingeborg died a short time later, the home in L¿jt seemed empty.  Per is still working as a mechanic and lives at home.  It is good for Anne Margrethe as otherwise the house would seem too big.

Freddy and Aase got married September 27, 1986 and they have 2 children:

Jeanett Jessen                          born     August 15, 1988

They have now moved to Bjergholdt and built a new house on the place they bought from Didde and Peter Jessen.

Tommy still works in the banking world but now is working and living in Luxemborg.  He was married April 6, 1997 in Las Vegas to Kirsten Hansen.  She was born in Germany April 12, 1964 the daughter of farmer Jens and Marichen Hansen in Wittbeck by Husum.  They are building a house in Wellen, Germany.  It is by the Mosel River and close to the old town Trier. I was born September 19, 1909 and after a good childhood with many wonderful memories, I received my education in Bodum school and the classes were taught in German.  Only one hour a week, the lesson in religion was taught in Danish.  It was only the children in our family and a few other families that took advantage of this special privilege.  I liked the teacher, Anna Sandkam.  I believe she made us study very hard and had high expectations for us.  I especially remember the Christmas celebrations.  They were a big event.  Already in the first school years, we participated in the celebration.  We had to learn some songs and then we had to stand in front of all the parents and read all of them.  Every student also received a Christmas gift.

Then in 1920 we had the Reunification and all the German teachers were replaced with Danish teachers.  A School Commission was elected and my dad was elected chairman.  The first job of the Commission was to hire a Danish teacher. It was teacher A.J. Andersen from S¿nderbŸk by Randers who got the job.  He later became my father-in-law.  I only had six months of education with him because I was already admitted to Aabenraa Statsskoke in 1921.  I started in a class named 1 Mellem and finished with realeksamen in 1926.  I went to confirmation studies with Pastor Juhler in Aabenraa and was confirmed in St Nicolaj church in 1924.  After graduation I got a job as an apprentice in Aabenraa Sparekasse.  I had for some time wanted to work in a bank and I realized quickly that I had come to the right place.  I had the good fortune to work in the same bank for 50 years, only interrupted by military service in the summer of 1930.

You could write books about the advances in the bank in those 50 years.  I will just mention that for me it was 50 happy and interesting years.  In 1967 our bank joined the banks of S¿nderborg and T¿nder and was then called Sparekassen S¿nderjyllands and in 1969 I became manager of the bank in Aabenraa where I had worked since 1926 when I was 17 years old.  I retired in 1976.

I also had a wonderful private life.  When I was real young I got to know my teacher A.J. Andersen and his wife Ellen AndersenÕs daughter, Minna and later we decided to get married.  Minna was born May 19, 1912 in Pejrup on Fyn.  We were married March 25, 1934 in the L¿jt church by Pastor Hansen.  A short time later we moved to Aabenraa.  We rented a place a couple of times until we decided to build a house on TŸkkerl¿kke in 1950. On April I, we moved in there and we still live there and enjoy our retirement.

My sister Anna has written that dad had a brother, Uncle Peter, who at a young age emigrated to Australia and two sisters, Christine and Johanne immigrated to the USA. In 1963 Minna and I decided to visit both MinnaÕs family and my family in the United States which was a great experience.  It was the first time my family in the US had a visit from Denmark.  We took the same trip in 1973 with the same great success.  These visits gave us a lot of contacts.  In 1981 we went to Australia to visit Uncle PeterÕs descendants.  This was also a very great experience.  We had not had contact with the family in Australia for many years.  In 1953 we made contact with the Australian relatives and during our visit, we found out that there are many descendants of the J¿rgensen family living there.  In honor of our visit in 1981, they arranged a family party with 140 family members.

In closing comes the very best.  Minna and I have 2 children:

            Henning J¿rgensen     born     February 5, 1935

            Vagn J¿rgensen           born     July 16, 1938

Nis died on April 10, 1997.  Minna now lives at a retirement home on Frydendahl.

HenningÕs story written by his wife Esther:

Henning was born February 5, 1935.  After taking his first steps as a sweet handsome boy in white spats and sailor suit, he started school in Nygade school.  It soon became apparent that his skills were better for books than the practical skills.  To his parentÕs satisfaction he received his baccalaureate degree. He accomplished this in 1954.  He was very interested in politics.  He therefore started to study national economics to gain influence in how the crazy politicians use the countryÕs money. This goal changed as he thought it was too boring.  ItÕs a shame because I am sure that the money would have been spent in a more reasonable manner if Henning were in charge.

Instead he followed in his grandfatherÕs footsteps and chose to study education at Blaagaardsseminariet in K¿benhavn and graduated in 1959. After having lived in apartments for a few years, his Aunt Hanne helped him get organized.  After being in the army, he became a teacher at Rugkobbelskolen in Aabenraa from 1961 to 1966.  He then ventured on his own to the other side of StorebŸlt to FrederiksvŸrk.  It didnÕt take long for 3 single teachers to discover Henning, a handsome young man and place bets on who could make the best impression on him.  Luckily Esther won this bet.

Esther was born July 15, 1932, the daughter of Ellen Sofie and Ejnar Rasmussen.  Henning and Esther were married May 1, 1967.Actually it was May 2nd as a few days before the wedding, we found out the municipal office was closed on May 1st.  The wedding was decided so it really didnÕt matter.  We first lived in an apartment and when Anders, our first born got bigger and wanted to play in the yard, Henning would go down there and talk to the women about diapers and diets.  We then decided we should have a house with a garden.  That was in 1968 and we still live in that home on Hjortemosevej.

For Christmas 1997, I gave Henning a table tennis table.  I didnÕt plan it very well as none of our rooms were big enough.  There were two possibilities.  Either we could build a bigger room or sell the table.  We chose to build and this project started with a small addition to the bedroom and ended with another story on the house.  It turned out to be an expensive table. We have 2 children:

            Anders J¿rgensen                    born     November 2, 1967

            Jette J¿rgensen                        born     April 5, 1969

Anders is now in 2nd year at Frederiksberg Gymnasium.  If Henning and I have anything to say about it, he should at least be a professor, but now the average grade decides what he can be, so we will see.  Jette is still in Folkeskole and right now she wants to do everything.

HenningÕs interest in sports has not diminished and through the years we both enjoy it.  He is still a quiet man without the real big changes so everything is fine in our love nest.  Esther retired in 1992 and Henning in 1995.  They are enjoying their retirement years in their wonderful house on Hjortemosevej.

Anders is a biochemist and lives in BagsvŸrd.  He discovered however that he could earn more money by working with Nokia.   Jette got married July 26, 1994 to J¿rgen Svendsen born August 30, 1971.  He is the son of Dorrit and Svend Erik Svendsen, FrederiksvŸrk.  Jette is a nurse at Gentofte Hospital.  J¿rgen is a foreman in a shop for the autistic.  They live in BagsvŸrd and have 3 children.

LŸrke Svendsen                      born     December 16, 1996

Lasse Svendsen                       born     August 16, 1998

Thor Svendsen                        born     July 13, 2001

Vagn J¿rgensen writes:

I was born July 16, 1938 in Bodum near my grandparents.  I got my education in Aabenraa, first in Nygade School and later at the Statsskolen.  After school I worked as an apprentice in 1955 as a diesel mechanic at Chr.P. Bars¿e.  In 1959, I studied at Odense Teknikum and graduated as an engineer in 1962. The following years I had different jobs around the country.  It was exciting with many challenges.  In 1958, I married Edith Hansen and we have 4 children:

            Per J¿rgensen                          born     February 16, 1959

            Michael J¿rgensen                  born     February 27, 1962

            Anne Mette J¿rgensen             born     July 11, 1964

            Tine J¿rgensen                        born     May 6, 1967

We divorced in 1974.

My wife now is Aase Dalsgaard.  Aase was born April 1, 1944 the daughter of Martha and Poul Lund, Haderslev.  We were married January 29, 1978.  Aase is a teacher and now works as a psychologist for schools in R¿derkro and Tinglev.  When I married Aase I also got a little daughter, Charlotte born May 8, 1970.  The three of us live on N¿rremarken in Tinglev in a wonderful house we built in 1975-76.  Here I have my office and we import machines and equipment for farms and industry from a German business.

We moved many years ago to Aabenraa.  Aase still has the same job.  Vagn has worked for Danish Bio Gas in Aarhus for 20 years.

Vagn has a good job and his office is at home.  He says it is a business that has possibilities for huge expansion in the future.  Every day new and exciting things happen.  Perhaps that is why Vagn accepts new challenges.  He likes his work and it is also a hobby that he enjoys.  VagnÕs 4 children from his first marriage all live in Haderslev.

Per is married to Gitte Christensen and they have 2 children:

            Ssebastian J¿rgensen              born     October 18, 1982

            Steffan J¿rgensen                    born     February 1, 1985

Michael has one son:

            Mads                                       born     December 21, 1987

Anne Mette has 4 children:

            Trine                                        born     April 18, 1991

            Sopie                                       born     October 19, 1998

Tine lives with Kell Skovgaard who is a surveyor.  They have 2 children:

Charlotte has moved to Copenhagen with her finance, Clive Wood who is from Cornwall in England.  Charlotte is going to teach English at a private school in S¿borg and Clive is going to work in marketing for an English firm.  They live in Frederiksberg.

Albert J¿rgensen and family:

Albert writes:

I was born on Harbogaard February 9, 1912.  In 1918 I started school in Bodum and was confirmed 1926 in L¿jt church with Pastor Hansen.  After school my brothers and I had to help with different chores. Jes drove the horses for threshing and we pitched the sheaves down and put the straw up in the barn.  We learned to use a flail from Knud Petersen.  Around 1925 my dad bought a self cleaning threshing machine from the blacksmith in ¯sterl¿gum. It was powered with a John Deere motor.  It was exciting and saved us a lot of work. In 1926 I was a hired hand with A. Hjortlund on little H¿gebjerg.  After 1 1/2 years I came back home as Jes got a job. After a couple of years I got a job with Hans Skau in Lillehave and stayed there until 1933.  Then I went back home when Jes got a farm by Revs¿.  Jes had often been ill, so I began to go to Revs¿ and do the sowing.  In April I got engaged to Astrid Bodil, born July 30, 1916, the daughter of Bodil and Jacob Holdt, Dybvighoved.

After our marriage in 1936, we took over Harbogaard.  Dad and Mom stayed with us and we were happy that they could help with the work as long as they had good health.  During the 50 years we had the farm, there was great progress in farming.  The first year we milked by hand and used horses.  Later we go milking machines and a few years later, we bought a tractor and finally a combine.  All this made work easier.  We had 7 children:

            J¿rgen Holdt J¿rgensen                      born     November 1, 1937

            Signe Elisabeth J¿rgensen                   born     December 8, 1938

            Bodil J¿rgensen                                  born     May 15, 1942

Then came the difficult year where we lost 2 dear little boys.  Erik was born May 17, 1944 and he died January 13, 1945 from bronchitis.  July 15, 1945 we had another baby boy named Erik.  He died 11 days later, July 26, 1945 from severe thrush.  Then we had 2 more children:

            Annemarie J¿rgensen                          born     April 15, 1947

            Henrik Holdt J¿rgensen                      born     January 20, 1951

We had many good years on Harbogaard, but when Paul Paulsen could no longer make it in his home on Gl Bodumvej, we bought his house.  We now have lived here since January, 1983 as it is time to slow down.  I still go to Harbogaard and take care of the land, which now mostly consist of growing grain.  We had begun to reduce the herd a few years ago but when we later became ill with IBR, we had to sell most of the herd.  A few young cattle are out on pasture but the buildings need cleaning before we can rebuild the herd.

We look forward to the day AnnemarieÕs son Peter can take over the farm.  He likes farming and will be going to agricultural school.  When we moved up here to L¿jt, we were pleased that Annemaie and her fiancŽ Erik Schmidt moved to Harbogaard.  They really take good care of the old meeting place for the J¿rgensen family.

Astrid dies March 10, 1997 and Albert dies April 2, 1998.

J¿rgen Holdt J¿rgensen:

Lars Rohde J¿rgensen                         born                 February 13, 1965

Lars had worked in farming several places including a farm in Lintrup by R¿dding.  He also worked at Hotel Folkehjem in Aabenraa.  Now he works at the Bambo firm in Aabenraa.  Jorgen and Maren enjoy life in their home in Bodum

Signe writes:

I was born December 8, 1938 on Harbogaard where I had a wonderful childhood.  After 8 1/2 years of school in L¿jt, I worked as a maid.  After that I worked 3 years in C.A. LassenÕs jewelry shop in Aabenraa.  In April 1959, I went to Heidelberg in southern Germany with my sister Bodil to learn language.  I spent 8 months there working for a boarding house.  It was hard but a wonderful time I will never forget.  In January 1960, I got a job at J¿rgen FrandsenÕs jewelry in Vejle.  October 3. 1960 was a very sad day for me.  I was a passenger in a serious car accident.  My girlfriend was killed and I had serious injuries to my arms and legs. I was unconscious for 19 days in Odense University Hospital. I also had psychological problems for a long time.  During the winter of 1961-62, I went to a convalescent stay at R¿dding H¿jskole and thought I could start working again, but it was too soon.  I then received treatment in Aarhus and started to work in an office there. In 1963, I met my future husband, Ervid Peter Mejer Schmidt.  He was born February 6, 1938, the son of Eline and Mads Peter Schmidt, Genner.  We were married in the L¿jt church July 17, 1965 and moved to Vejle where Erwin is an engineer a M¿ller and Jochumsen.  I was a homemaker and the next 3 years, we had 2 sons:

Robert Mejer Schmidt                         born     January 15, 1966

Carsten Mejer Schmidt                        born     December 2, 1967

In 1968 we moved to a house in Grejs near Vejle and we still live here.  I had some wonderful years as a homemaker.  Now that the boys are grown, I went back to work for my old boss in the jewelry store in Vejle and I like that very much.

Signe writes later:

In 1989, I became semi-retired and have a part time job at T¿rring-Uldum Pensionisth¿jskole.  I sing in the Vejle chorus with the rsungerne there. Erwin worked for Moller and Jochumsen for 14 years.  Then he worked as an advisor and spent the last 4 years of his career at K.D. machine factory in Vejle.  He retired when he was 60 and enjoys playing golf.

Our son Robert works as a pollution control engineer for the water department in Kolding Kommune.  He is married to nurse Hanne Haahr, born October 9, 1968, the daughter of Inge and Helge Haahr, Esbjerg.  They live in B¿rkop and have 2 children

Ida Arved Schmidt                               born     September 18, 1997

Anna Arved Schmidt                           born     November 5, 2001

Our son Carsten went to HorsenÕs Teknikum and became a mechanical engineer.  He works as an IT engineer at Betodan in Vejle.  He is married to Dorthe Gjerka, born April 9, 1969, the daughter of Edith and Leon Gjerka, Vejle.  They live in ¯ster Snede by Kragelund and 2 children:

Martin Gjerka Schmidt                        born     May 14, 1995

Maria Gjerka Schmidt                         born     September 12, 1997

Bodil writes:

I was born on Harbogaard May 15, 1942 the third child of Astrid and AlbertÕs children.  I went to L¿jt School for 9 years and graduated in 1958.  After school, I went with my sister Signe and worked in Heidelberg.  Later I went to by myself to London as an au pair girl.  Then I worked at Hotel HornbŸkhus until November 1961.  The winter of 1961-62, I went to R¿dding Hojskole with my sister Signe.  After that I had different jobs until I started nurseÕs training at Aarhus Kommune Hospital.

On November 23, 1968, I married Svend Ingerslev, born March 19, 1940, the son of Kathrine and Holger Ingerslev, Torring by Ry.  I met Svend at Rodding H¿jskole and we moved to Torringaard and have lived there since.  We have 3 children:

Gitte Ingerslev                                     born     October 28, 1969

Hanne Ingerslev                                  born     June 17, 1971

Ole Ingerslev                                       born     July 17, 1976

Two years ago I started working at Ry Kommunes nursing home Sokilde and I enjoy this work.

Bodil writes later:

We lived on T¿rringgaard until December 1, 1998 and sold the farm to two brothers who now have a dairy there. We moved to Boesvej 14 in Svejstrup Enge by Skanderborg.  The place is 35 acres of land with half planted to Christmas trees.  The rest is rented to a neighbor who raises grain.  I now work as a nurse in Ry Kommune.  I plan to retire when I am 60 and then enjoy life.

Gitte married Henrik Vestergaard May 25, 1996.  They live on HenrikÕs farm which is in Gjern and raises hogs.  Gitte works in the office at Tvilum-Scanbirk furniture factory.  They have 2 children:

Jacob Vestergaard                               born     March 9, 1998

Cecilie Vestergaard                              born     July 27, 2000

Hanne is not married and lives in Silkeborg.  She works in the kitchen at Sejs nursing home.

Ole is not married and lives in Silkeborg.  He attends school in Hammel.

Annemarie writes:

I was born on Harbogaard April 15, 1947.  I went to L¿jt school and after confirmation I worked at home.  I went to Sundeved Youth School in 1962.  I then worked as a maid for Pastor Andersen in Tinglev.  A year later I work for Dr. Unna in Dybvighoved.  I then wanted to try something else and worked in the kitchen at the camping school, Brenstoft by Rinkenaes.  It was only open in the summer so I had to find another job.  I then worked in the hotel and cafeteria in L¿jt vacation home.  I worked there three years.  Then I was a house assistant and moved to Stolling with my finance Erik Schmidt.  He was born January 1, 1937, the son of Martha and Soren Schmidt, S¿nder Sejerslev by H¿jer.  We only lived in Stolling one year.  When my parents, Albert and Astrid bought a house in L¿jt, we moved to my old home on Harbogaard.  We have a son:

            Peter Michael J¿rgensen                     born     November 13, 1966

We know that we can only live here a few more years.  Peter is out working on a farm and will later study at an agricultural school.  It is planned that he will take over Harbogaard.

Annemarie tells later that she and Erik now live in Genner.  She has had several jobs and now works for VUC.  Erik has worked in Aabenraa at an automobile body shop.  It is a busy place and even though Erik is semi-retired he is often called back to work.

Peter got married to Conny Jensen October 21, 1990.  Conny was born May 12, 1970 the daughter of Birgit and Egon Jensen from L¿jt.  They have 2 children:

Margrethe J¿rgensen                           born     August 21, 1994

Henriette J¿rgensen                             born     May 7, 1996

Peter and Conny toke over Harbogaard after Albert and Astrid in 1986.  They built new barns and other buildings.  It was sad in 1994 when there was a fire that destroyed the old farmhouse.  They have built a new house a little east of the other buildings.  The farm income has not always been the best, so Peter and Conny chose to seek other work.  Now the buildings are empty and the land is rented out.

Peter works for Skadesservice (damage restoration service) in R¿dekro.  Conny has a bar and grill in Bolderslev which she now hopes to sell.

Henrik Holdt J¿rgensen:

Henrik was born January 20, 1951 in Aabenraa hospital.  He went to Bramsjergskolen in Aabenraa.  After his confirmation, he was awarded an invalid pension and has always lived at home with Albert and Astrid.  Here he helped do the farm work.  He especially liked to drive the tractor.  Through the years he has been on many trips to other countries and in his spare time he goes to norkleklubben (humanitarian organization) where he works with painting.  He has a lot of cassette tapes he enjoys listening to while he enjoys a good cigar.  What he enjoys the most is to attend all the many family fests.  He moved to Aabenraa when Astrid died, but he bicycled to L¿jt every dad to visit his dad.

Botille Lauritzen and family:

Botille was born May 28, 1916.  She went to Bodum school and was confirmed in L¿jt church.  In 1938 she married Albert Lauritzen, born September 16, 1912 the son of Christine and Lorenz Peter Lauritzen, Barsmark.  They moved to a newly built farm on Bjergholdt.  They have 2 children:

Christine Lauritzen                              born     August 29, 1939

Svend Peter Lauritzen                          born     July 31, 1942

Botille then got seriously ill and died of typhoid fever September 23, 1942 and Albert was left alone with two small children.

On December 15, 1945, Albert Lauritzen marries Margrethe Schmidt, born January 10, 1925, the daughter of Anne Margrethe and Christian Schmidt, Barsmark.  They have 3 children:

Mike Langschwager Hamann              born     October 18, 1999

Christine and Magnus had a mason business for 23 years.  Because of a bad back, he retired early.  He now spends his time with restoring old grey Ferguson tractors and they also raise birds.

Svend Peter Lauritzen writes:

I was born on Bjergholdt July 31, 1942.  I had to go school for 8 years because I started school when I was 6 and could not be confirmed until I was 14.  My confirmation was with Pastor Hansen and right after that I went to work. The first 6 months, I worked half a week on Harbogaard and the other half week here at home.  The next year I was a hired hand at Mathias Hansen at Skovbymark.  Then I attended Sundeved Youth School for 5 months.  After that I worked on different farms and also at the bull station for uncle Jes.  In 1965 I went to Graasten Agricultural School.  In 1970 I started to work for a construction firm.  Most of their work was in Germany.  I worked there 5 years.  In 1975 I drove a milk truck for Central Mejeriet in Aabenraa.  Then I worked at L¿jt M¿blefabrik.  After 6 months I drove the milk truck again.  The last few years I was lucky that I could drive on beautiful L¿jtland.

August 1, 1984 I took over the farm on Bjergholdt after my parents moved to L¿jt.  I only raise hogs on the farm.  I am also renting Uncle PeterÕs land and part of Johan WittÕs land.  All together I farm 70 t¿nder (acres).  In 1985 I quit driving a milk truck to get a part time job on L¿jt M¿belfabrik (furniture). April 16, 1987 I married Lone Andersen, born January 25, 1945, the daughter of Else and Poul Nicolai Poulsen from Kolding.  Lone has a daughter from a previous marriage, Tina Burckard born January 7, 1965.  Lone works 30 hours a week as a teacherÕs assistant in Aabenraa.  Tine got her training in a bank and now works for SDS in Aarhus but will soon move to a job in S¿nderborg.

Today Svend Peter drives a milk truck off and on.  Lone is a foster parent and Tina is an office consultant for banks.  She now lives in Farum with her boyfriend Frank Ivanhoe Nielsen.

Ejner writes:

After a little over a year on L¿jt Vestermark, I spent my childhood in Skovby where I went to school for 7 years.  First we have 3 years in the little class and then 4 years in the big class.  After I finished my education, I started training in agricultural with jobs on different farms in S¿nderjylland.  I then went 5 months to Skamlingsbakkens Youth School.  I was 16 months with the cavalry in NŸstved and 9 months on Graasten Agricultural School.  All in all it was an exciting and interesting time with competent and generous people at Uncle JesÕs in HjordkŸr.  I was also a while on R¿nshoved H¿jskole from 1966-67.  Here I met Margit Eiler, born April 14, 1946, the daughter of Marie and Kresten Eiler from Ferup by Kolding.  We were married February 20, 1971 and have 3 lovely children:

Jakob Eiler Ernst                     born     September 1, 1971

Kristine Eiler Ernst                  born     September 20, 1973

Helene Eiler Ernst                   born     June 12, 1979

After h¿jskolen (high school) I lived around Kolding and had a couple of jobs until we rented a small farm with ha in 1970.  When the lease was up April 1, 1976, we bought together with Ole and Kirsten the Aggersb¿l farm in Egholt.  They move in there and we took over and live on MargitÕs home farm, Harager in Ferup.  We thought it was a great way to farm, but financially we were not able to survive.  I therefore trained as an inseminator and now travel for 4 years in the Kolding area Cattle Association.

Ejner tells later that the farm, Aggersb¿l has been sold.  He still works as an inseminator.  Margit teaches school and later was an organist at Kirke Music School in L¿gumkloster.  She also plays the organ in Jordrup church.

Jakob married Jette J¿rgensen in 2000. Jette was born May 13, 1969.  She is the daughter of Karen and Ole J¿rgensen from Skrydstrup.   Jakob worksas a manager on a farm by Kolding.  Jette has gotten her HA and works with a farm magazine in Errits¿.  They live in Kolding and have a daughter:

Kristine studies at Music Conservatory in Odense and want to be a singer.

HeleneÕs interests are in music but as this is written she attends Ollerup gymnastic school.

Ole writes:

I was born in Skovby August 8, 1947.  The first 3 years I went to Skovby school and then I went to L¿jt School.  Then I attended Skanlingsbankens Youth School from 1962-63.  After that I had different jobs on farms.  I worked with Uncle Jes on HjordkŸr Bull Station and also with Uncle Eduard in Daler.  In 1970-71 I was a student on Graasten Agricultural School.

November 23, 1973 I married Kirsten Thomsen born October 21, 1949, the daughter of Lisbeth and Peter Thomsen from Hammelev.  We have 4 children:

Henrik Ernst                            born     March 1, 1974

Marianne Ernst                        born     February 26, 1979

Martin Thomsen Ernst            born     October 4, 1985

Morten Thomsen Ernst           born     October 4, 1985

In 1985 we moved to Ferup to help Margit and Ejner.  In 1976 we bought the farm Aggersbol together with Margit and Ejner and moved there.  As Ejner has already told it was tough to make ends meet and in 1992 we chose to first sell the land and in 1998 we sold the buildings.

We then bought a house in Egholt, Kirsten has worked in the nursing home in Lunderskov and still does.

Ole first worked for a butcher for 1 1/2 years.  Later he worked for a Epoke firm in Askov. They make snowplows and salt spreaders.  Today Ole works for KFK, a drying plant at Alfax in Vonsild.

Henrik now also works at Epoke in Askov.  He lives in Kolding with Susanne who is a social and health assistant.

Marianne got her job training as a kitchen manager and now works at Ladelund Youth School in Sydslesvig.  She lives in Flensborg with Tim.  He got his training as a truss maker.  Now he is currently in the army.  He hopes to attend a machine technical school, but his big dream is to go sailing.

Martin and Morten, the twins are at Skibelund Youth School.

Annette writes:

I was born February 5, 1954.  Like Ole, I went the first 3 years in Skovby School.  Then I went to L¿jt School where I graduated in 1971.  I then trained as a technical assistant.  In the fall of 1973, I started at Harbjerg concrete firm in Borup.  I worked there until January 1976 and then came to Rudebeck and Vortman Aps in Padborg.  I still work there. Luckily we are always busy.

September 25, 1976, I married Hans J¿rgen Kellner.  He is from Harreslev in Sydslesvig and works in a sport shop in Padborg.  In September, he starts a job at Sydslesvig Danish Youth Organization in Flensborg.  We live in a house in Froslev.  We donÕt have any children.  In our spare time we enjoy sports.  We are both handball players and J¿rgen is also a teacher and instructor.

Annette writes later:

They chose to dissolve their marriage as they didnÕt see each other very often.  Annette still works at the same place.  She has now sold the house and lives in an apartment in Padborg.
